Critical incidents cause powerful emotional reactions to the people who are impacted by them. This 14-day (7 credit) program will train you to effectively manage critical incidents, and in doing so help manage the emotional health and safety of those involved in a traumatic event.

Candidates for this program may be eligible for
JIBC awards and bursaries.
Courses in this certificate are open to individuals from a broad range of occupations and professions who may be required to provide or manage debriefing services following a critical incident. The certificate might be of specific interest to human resources, first responders such as firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement, front line responders such as emergency social services, crisis intervention, victim services, heathcare workers such as nurses, doctors, and child welfare workers.
The Critical Incident Stress Management Certificate is designed to train you to effectively manage critical incidents and protect the emotional health and safety of those involved in a traumatic event.
To successfully complete the certificate, you must attend the training in full, achieve 70% or higher on the written take-home exam and pass the CISM Simulation (CISM-1020). Courses must be completed within 3 years. Full attendance is required.
Graduates of the Critical Incident Stress Management Certificate can apply for certification with the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS). For more information on ATSS certification visit www.atss.info.

- The total cost to complete the CISM Certificate is approximately $2,800. Courses are paid for individually when you register for them.
- International tuition rates are calculated at 3 times domestic rates.
