It is mere hours since the world became aware of the horrific events happening in Paris today. People drank lattes and laughed loudly around me as I sat shaking in a Sydney cafe while I frantically switched between news sites watching the horror unfolding. I felt confused, shocked, saddened, angry and so many other emotions all at once. I wanted to shout to the people around me to just STOP LAUGHING, STOP DRINKING, STOP HAVING FUCKING FUN.
I have visited Paris many times and it has always held such a special place in my heart for so many different reasons. My husband and I recently spent part of our honeymoon there and it was filled with such happiness, love and light. I am trying to think of those Paris days today, knowing that she is a strong city and that she will rise up again, most certainly stronger than before. She will once again fill the streets with the joie de vivre that I know is not there today, nor tomorrow, nor next week. But I am absolutely confident that it will one day come back to the streets and people of Paris. Until then, until she is ready, our hearts, support and thoughts will be with Paris.
