All You Need is Love
I was moved to tears* by Ben Moon's tribute to his doggy friend Denali (pssst. have tissues handy!) and at the end of the film he quotes writer David Dudley:
When someone you love walks through the door, even if it happens five times a day, you should go totally insane with joy.
Doesn't that image evoke the most wonderful feeling? Expressing your love to the treasured people in your life so simply but probably in the most meaningful of ways.
As 2016 stretches before us with so many opportunities and undiscovered delights it has prompted me to contemplate what's really important this year; what and who matters; what and who deserves my time and attention, and where I'd like to focus my energy and creative endeavours. I want to make sure that my focus is on what will make my heart and soul happy and how I can stretch and wrap that feeling around all those people and things that are important to me. I have come to realise that the house, the car, the clothes, the things that you accumulate are not going to hold you tight as you sleep, they won't hold your hand or stroke your back when you need it, or support you through the hard times -- nor will they celebrate your wins, your highs or your hard earned achievements. But those who love you and those who you love in return, they are the important ones - they are the people that will be there for you every step of the way.
To that end, 2016 isn't a year I'll be making resolutions or listing intentions - instead I'm planning on shedding baggage and the unwanted heaviness of things that no longer serve me from a place of love. I want 2016 to be uncomplicated and uncluttered. Bareboned even. It may be as simple as donating a coat that I no longer use to someone in need, listening to my body when it's aching and needs to sleep just that one extra hour or stepping away from negative people or situations and instead focussing my time, my attention on those people and things that bring light and love into my life.
I'm so excited about 2016, we have some big things planned (hello NYC) and I can't wait to share them with you all. May your days be filled with the most insane love and joy - Happy 2016!
* Apologies to my husband who had to listen to me ugly cry in bed late one Sunday evening
