Be Soft

Be Soft

Is it just me or does it feel like there is a whole lot of hate and sadness flying around at the moment? I know that this week can’t possibly be any different to other weeks but it seems that people are increasingly picking flights, saying mean things to each other, intimidating, belittling, bullying and for some reason this week it feels somehow louder, somehow magnified.

I have been having long conversations with my husband about hate, about online hate especially and I am still no clearer as to the driving behaviours behind it, what can stop it and what can be done to help those on the receiving end. I am lucky enough to not have had any negative or hate filled comments, but I know it is only time before they come my way, and isn't that a sad reflection of the world? I am also lucky enough to have met the most supportive people in cyberspace who have become much loved cyber-buds (*waves hi to you all*). I love standing on the sidelines of their lives as I cheer them on, high fiving them on their achievements, offering kind words of encouragement and support when it is needed; and becoming the biggest fan girl of their creative spaces. I know that it is this treasured small group that I will turn to when my time comes, when someone with a heart filled with hate comes my way, and I know that I can count on them for bucket loads of support.

I keep coming back to the words below. I let them remind me to make sure I don't let the hate flying around to enter my heart, to harden me, to let me feel the negativity of others.

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place - Iain Thomas

There really is already so much hate and bitterness flying around the world as it is, let's just be kind to one another shall we?
